Comment from Chub Harper (GW, posted by D.Herbst)
Nearly 100% of the plants in the Harper Collection were donated by me. The original donation back in 1981 of 342 plants all came from my garden in Moline. I acquired these plants over the years from various nurseries and collectors from the East coast starting in the late 1950's. Subsequently there have been a multitude of donations from me over the years. Again, these plants I acquired from various sources and friends. Some of them are actual grafts and propagations that I did with Randy Dykstra of Fulton, IL  back in the 1980's, etc. Some of them spent some time in my home yard before being dug and moved on the collection over the years. The number of accessions in the collection have fluctuated over the years as plants grew too large and were moved to other locations in the garden. Some have died, some were removed because they did not perform well, etc. At one time there were over 700 accessions in the collection, the current number of active accessions is 505 as of August 2005.
